I wouldn’t suggest it for a first date because it’s hard to hear over the all the background noise. The restaurant definitely has a young vibe as the music is just a tad loud. Dark Pralines and Truffles paired with Double Espresso A Closeup of the Pralines and Truffles We each ate one with our espresso (which paired wonderfully with the dark chocolate) and brought the rest home as one was decadent enough for dessert (especially after lunch). The chocolates were rich and smooth and slowly melted on your tongue allowing you to savor the flavor. It is served on their signature tasting plate alongside a double espresso prepared with Max’s specially selected beans from the Mocha region in Yemen. This includes six of Max’s unique pralines and truffles all made with dark chocolate. Chicken and Goat Cheese Waffle Saladįor dessert, we both ordered Assorted Dark Pralines and Truffles paired with a Double Espresso. My mom had the Chicken and Goat Cheese Waffle Salad (roasted corn waffle topped with thinly sliced chicken breast, spicy sugared bacon, grape tomatoes, roasted red peppers, roasted corn, goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette). Although the fries were wonderful, you couldn’t taste the cocoa. I loved everything about the burger except the sauce, but luckily there was only a bit of it. The 8 oz burger is served with Max’s barbecue sauce and cheddar cheese topped with lettuce, tomato and beer-battered Vidalia onion rings and served with cocoa dusted waffle fries. I was so excited to try the Brenner Burger because it has all my favorite toppings. My mom ordered the Creamy Spinach & Artichoke Fondue (served with warm chili dusted tortilla chips for scooping). The meatballs practically melted in my mouth and the garlic bread was just the right amount of crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. Although the meatballs were spiced, they weren’t spicy. (Note: The following descriptions are taken from the menu.) The caramelized onion and ricotta meatballs were served with spicy tomato sauce and toasted garlic bread. We arrived a few minutes early for our 1PM reservation, but were seated right away.įor the first course I ordered Max’s Spicy Meatballs. Going with a companion meant we were able to sample twice as many items on the menu (although we both ordered the same dessert). My mom and I took PATCO from New Jersey and were delighted to find it was just a block from the station. The Philadelphia restaurant is located at 1500 Walnut Street, making it very convenient to reach via public transportation. They now have five locations in the US Boston, New York and Philadelphia have chocolate bars and restaurants while Paramus, NJ and Bethesda, MD are just chocolate bars (meaning they serve chocolate drinks and desserts, but no savory items). The first American location was opened in 2006 in NYC. They’re participating in Restaurant Week (which runs through the 19th you can find a list of other participating restaurants here), and their three-course, $20 lunch included an appetizer, entrée and dessert (my kind of place!).Īlthough the company is headquartered in New York City, it was started in Israel and the first Max Brenner Chocolate Bar was opened in New South Wales, Australia. ![]() ![]() This is obvious everywhere you look from the moment you walk in the door. To the right is a whimsical chocolate shop with colorfully-wrapped bonbons and bars galore, just to the left of the maitre d’s stand is a machine swirling luscious-looking cocoa, in the back is a chocolate bar serving up decadent hot chocolate, milkshakes and fondue (among other things).Įven the napkins make it clear what Max Brenner is all about.
